Assistant Chief Probation Officer
County of Marin

County of Marin, CA is seeking an Assistant Chief Probation Officer.  The next Assistant Chief Probation Officer will be an experienced probation professional that will facilitate a culture that embraces accountability, respect, trust, and honesty. As the Department’s second-in-command, this person will need to be able to support and work in lock step with the Chief and step in during his absence. However, the Assistant should also be confident and willing to respectfully challenge the Chief’s positions when necessary.

Past experience as senior administrator in adult services, juvenile services, or juvenile hall is necessary to effectively manage the variety of tasks facing the Department. Ideally, the Assistant Chief will have job experience in each of those areas. The Assistant Chief needs to maintain an excellent relationship with the Superior Court as well as the other departments working in the criminal justice system. This person will also need to reach out to the statewide probation community through CPOC (Chief Probation Officers of California) to maintain awareness of the ongoing changes in the legislative arena affecting probation.

A familiarity with social work and community engagement is necessary to be successful in this role. The Assistant Chief is also responsible for working with labor groups and personnel issues, so past experience working with and in a unionized environment will be critical. Lastly, the Assistant Chief should be optimistic and open to learning.

Salary: $150,280 - $165,676
