Director of Planning
City of San Diego

City of San Diego is seeking a Planning Director. The Director is responsible for providing visionary leadership to guide planning efforts, formulating complex policy positions, developing innovative strategies to further implementation of the General Plan and Climate Action Plan, securing meaningful and representative public input in the planning process, and preparing an excellent work product that reflects the goals and policy values of the Mayor, City Council, and the affected communities. The ideal candidate will be a trendsetter able to use their tenured urban planning and policy development background to create and execute plans that shape innovative solutions to these pressing issues. A sound political acumen involving internal employees while building rapport with external community stakeholders will be vital in this role. The selected candidate must have substantial experience in urban planning, a passion for creating great places, and a desire to foster a more equitable and sustainable future. The individual will demonstrate excellent leadership; possess superior analytical, written, and verbal communication; and be skilled in organizational, program, and project management.
