Director of Workplace and Employment Standards

The City of Oakland is seeking a proven professional with public sector experience in employment and local compliance laws who will lead this department recently created by the City. Experience with a strong administrative management background is essential as the Director of Workplace and Employment Standards will ensure compliance with relevant local employment and contracting laws, programs, and policies. The ideal candidate will need a thorough understanding of employment law at the local and State level who also enjoys leading community outreach efforts to educate workers and employers to provide advocacy and assistance to workers and local businesses, particularly those that have been historically disadvantaged.

Strong candidates will have the ability to serve as a liaison to public officials, employers and their employees, labor organizations, the business community, members of policy and advisory boards and community groups to coordinate and collaborate on the enforcement and implementation of policies, procedures, and objectives in meetings and during other discussions. The successful candidate will have the ability to work with diverse groups with multiple priorities and the ability to expand their role as new laws are developed.

Salary: $157,073.28 - $235,610.04
