Under the direction of the City Manager, the new City Engineer is responsible for managing all phases of engineering design, capital and development plan review, construction inspection, surveying, and mapping for the engineering services of the city. This is a new position for the City of Santa Fe and will be responsible for the functions of planning and zoning, subdivision, and related development regulations, and building inspection code enforcement; preparing, updating, and maintaining a capital improvements plan; serving as the Project Administrator for City Projects; specifications and standards used in Public Works projects; design and construction of public improvements by the City; reviews subdivision plats, public improvements and drainage improvements of new developments for compliance with City standards, specifications and ordinances; and responsible for controlling and inspection of construction of improvements in public rights-of-way by adjacent property owners.

The ideal candidate must be a seasoned, experienced, highly competent technical expert with an outstanding track record of prioritizing and implementing multi-discipline projects water, traffic, sewer, drainage, roads, and parks. The next City Engineer must be knowledgeable of City land use and development regulations, zoning codes, planning concepts and principles, along with the ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations. The ideal professional must have demonstrated success developing and maintaining effective inter-agency communication with agencies such as Texas Department of Transportation, Houston-Galveston Area Council, and Galveston County. 

Candidates must have good interpersonal, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy. Strong presentation skills are also essential as this role engages directly with and provides recommendations to City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals. Municipal experience is preferred. 

A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 4 years of directly related, increasingly responsible professional engineering design and project management experience is required. Candidates must be a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas issued by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers, and preferably a licensed Land Surveyor. If licensed in another state, candidates must acquire license reciprocity in the State of Texas within six (6) months of date of employment. A master's degree is preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are highly desirable. 


Location: Santa Fe, Texas
Salary: $85,000 – $110,000
