Risk Safety Specialist
Travis County, TX

Travis County's Transportation and Natural Resources (TNR) department is seeking candidates to fill the Risk Safety Specialist II position and come work for one of Forbes’ 2019 Best Large Employers in Austin, Texas. This position is eligible for a remote/hybrid work schedule!

The Risk Safety Specialist II will perform intermediate level professional Risk/Safety management duties and responsibilities for Transportation and Natural Resources which provides maintenance of county roads, drainage and bridges, fleet services for vehicles and equipment, County parks, natural resource preservation, and traffic engineering. This position provides initial response to critical safety incidents and investigates all Loss Notices and Injury Reports, as well as develops corrective actions. The RSSII also conducts Park Inspections and partners with Parks Management on corrective measures. Together with the Safety Program Administrator, plans, develops, and conducts Employee Safety Meetings as well as specialized safety training – Bucket Truck and Forklift for example. Along with department supervisors, will coordinate procurement and storage of Personal Protective Equipment and Safety items, while researching and recommending additional PPE and/or Safety items.

This role also assists with the County's Commercial Defensive Driving Program; employee post-accident drug screening; loss prevention, statistical reporting and trend analysis; education, training, and awareness through investigations and inspections; administration of loss prevention and safety programs at the Department level of the organization; problem solving of moderate scope and exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices.

Bachelor’s degree in Personnel Management, Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Environmental Sciences, Safety Engineering, Chemistry or a directly related field AND three (3) years of directly related demonstrated experience; or any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job. The County prefers that candidates have any of the following certifications: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

Salary: $55,578 – $69,473
