Planning Manager

City of Madera is seeking a Planning Manager. The Planning Manager is specifically responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the work activities of department staff and acts as Secretary of the seven member Planning Commission. The position involves interpreting zoning and subdivision ordinances, setting division goals to promote development and attract investment, and enhancing customer service. Responsibilities include managing staff, overseeing the department's budget, preparing reports for the City Council and Planning Commission, resolving service issues, and building relationships with the public and other agencies. The role also serves as a liaison to the Planning Commission and attends the annual League of California Cities Planning Commissioner’s Conference. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in modern city and regional planning practices, proactive with strong administrative and management skills, and an effective communicator. They are approachable, positive, collaborative, and experienced in mentoring staff. Additionally, they are hands-on, ready to tackle daily departmental challenges.
