The City of San Jose is seeking an Environmental Services Department Director to lead the delivery of top-tier utility services and programs aimed at enhancing the city's health, environment, and economy. This pivotal role oversees a diverse portfolio including garbage and recycling services, watershed protection, municipal and recycled water management, sustainability initiatives, and operations of the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proven executive leadership in managing large-scale programs and budgets, extensive knowledge of wastewater, stormwater, and freshwater facilities, as well as environmental regulations. Essential skills include strategic planning, fiscal management, stakeholder engagement, and fostering a culture of equity and inclusion. Strong communication abilities are crucial for effectively liaising with City leadership, community stakeholders, and regulatory agencies. The successful candidate will uphold the City Manager’s leadership values and expectations while navigating complex environmental challenges and political landscapes.
