Solano County is seeking a Director of Health and Social Services. The Director of Health and Social Services plans, organizes and directs integrated services of the behavioral health (mental health and substance use disorder), clinical health services, public health, several social service and assistance programs; and serves as a member of the County’s executive team. The successful candidate for the Health and Social Services Department must have extensive knowledge of health and social service programs, management practices, budget and fiscal management, personnel supervision, and public funding. They should be well-versed in addressing the social and economic challenges impacting health services, conflict resolution, and inter-governmental relationships. The ideal candidate will be skilled in planning and directing health programs, interpreting relevant laws and policies, managing staff, identifying operational problems, and preparing and justifying department budgets.
The County seeks a dynamic leader who is compassionate, strategic, and capable of guiding the department through daily operations and complex challenges. This leader should foster a positive work culture, prioritize staff development, and make difficult decisions when necessary. They must have a deep understanding of health policies, balance resource constraints with community needs, and collaborate effectively across departments. Creative problem-solving, a solutions-oriented mindset, and strong decision-making and communication skills are essential. Above all, the candidate should have a community-first approach, focusing on the long-term well-being of the county’s vulnerable populations while ensuring the department's sustainability and growth.

Salary: $240,117.60 - $291,864.48
