City of Northlake, Illinois
is seeking a Finance Director. The Finance Director is the Chief Financial Officer for the City. The finance department is responsible for cash receipts and revenue collection; preparing and monitoring the city’s budget; preparing the tax levy; payable and accounts receivable; water billing; risk management; accounting, auditing, and grant compliance; personnel, payroll, and employee benefits; and information technology. The Finance Director oversees six employees that handle water billing and the customer service/front office. The Finance Director also oversees an Assistant to the Finance Director who primarily handles human resource activities. One of the priorities of the Director will be working with the Assistant to the Finance Director and the City Attorney on a comprehensive update to the City’s personnel manual.
The next Finance Director should possess a strong background in finance and accounting, with expertise in key areas such as budgeting, tax levies, revenue forecasting, auditing, fund accounting, fixed assets, year-end entries, and cost accounting. They must demonstrate proficiency in financial reporting, drafting reports, and addressing municipal insurance issues. Excellent management and supervision skills are essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with other divisions, departments, and agencies. The ideal candidate will be a working manager who balances an understanding of the big picture with meticulous attention to detail. Additionally, they should exhibit effective and confident communication skills when engaging with the finance team and other staff members.
