The
South Suburban Park and Recreation District
is a special district providing parks and recreation services regionally to over 151,000 residents across 46 square miles in the Town of Bow Mar, Town of Columbine Valley, City of Littleton, City of Sheridan, City of Centennial west of I-25, City of Lone Tree, and unincorporated portions of Douglas County, Jefferson County and Arapahoe County.
Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the new Executive Director will oversee an annual budget of over $100,000,000 and 273 full-time team members, that are responsible for the following functional departments: Administration, Information Technology, Communications, Planning, Human Resources, Finance, Recreation, Parks and Open Space, Golf, and Hospitality.
The new Executive Director will be a visionary leader, inspiring a culture of excellence and innovation across the District. This individual will champion outstanding customer service, ensuring residents enjoy the highest quality recreational programs, parks, and facilities. They will drive strategic initiatives, develop impactful solutions, and foster collaboration to achieve the District’s mission and goals. With a strong financial acumen, they will oversee budgets and resources responsibly, while continuously enhancing program offerings, community engagement, and the overall park and recreation experience. The next Executive Director shall be an environmental thought and practice leader with demonstrated passion for implementing environmental policy governance models that align strategy and operations with the District’s Master Plan guiding principle to truly be “stewards of nature and sustainability”.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Recreation or related field. A Master’s Degree in Public Administration is highly preferred; a minimum of ten (10) years’ progressively responsible experience in parks, recreation, community services, finance and supervision and at least five (5) years of experience in a senior level executive management position, preferably at a public park and recreation agency. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicable professional certifications such as CPRA, NRPA and/or ICMA certifications are preferred. Experience with CAPRA Accreditation is a plus!
