Salt Lake County is seeking a Director of Regional Development. This role is one of the County’s most strategic and high-impact leadership roles, responsible for shaping policies and initiatives that influence Salt Lake County’s economic vitality, livability, and long-term growth. Reporting directly to the Mayor’s Office, this position works at the intersection of policy, planning, and execution, guiding a diverse portfolio that spans housing, transportation, economic development, environmental stewardship, and regional planning. The Director serves as a bridge between County leadership, 23 municipalities, state and federal agencies, business leaders and community stakeholders, ensuring that the County’s goals are advanced through collaboration, innovation, and sound governance. This is a politically nuanced and high-impact position, ideal for a leader who can balance strategy with execution in a dynamic environment.

The next Director of Regional Development will be more than an administrator—they will be a visionary leader, skilled strategist, and trusted advisor to the Mayor and her Executive Cabinet. This is a role for someone who thrives in complex environments, can balance big-picture thinking with operational excellence, and understands how to bring diverse stakeholders together to achieve ambitious goals. The ideal candidate will bring a proven ability to navigate politically nuanced settings, guide large teams with accountability and empathy, and transform policies into action that enhances communities. The Director of Regional Development is a renaissance leader—as comfortable with elected officials or a community forum as they are in a boardroom—able to translate vision into results that advance Salt Lake County’s long-term priorities.

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Salary: Up to $170,000 (based on qualifications)
