The City and County of San Francisco seeks a General Manager - Recreation and Parks Department. The General Manager leads the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, one of the nation’s largest and most diverse urban parks and recreation systems. Appointed by the Mayor and working in partnership with the Recreation and Parks Commission, the General Manager guides all aspects of a multi-faceted public agency responsible for over 230 parks, playgrounds, recreation centers, open spaces, and special facilities throughout San Francisco and beyond, including Golden Gate Park, Coit Tower, Marina Yacht Harbor, and Camp Mather in the high Sierras.

The ideal candidate is a visible, hands-on, and mission-driven executive leader with the experience and resilience to lead one of the nation’s largest and most complex urban parks and recreation systems. They bring a modern understanding of parks and recreation as essential civic infrastructure, central to public health, environmental stewardship, equity, and community well-being.
