California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services Hazard Mitigation (HM) Section is seeking an Assistant Director, who will oversee management, administration, and coordination of the HM Section and leads California’s statewide efforts to reduce the risk of disasters and emergencies such as fires, flood, earthquakes, and impacts of climate change. The Assistant Director will spearhead the development and implementation of programs that support the department’s pre- and post-disaster related objectives, staffing plans, assessments and applicable mitigation/management measures, vulnerability studies, and financial impacts. The incumbent is responsible for identifying and developing mitigation solutions to minimize risks to life and property from future disasters in accordance with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Assistance Guidance and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 4.

Cal OES is looking for a mitigation expert who is passionate about maintaining the livelihood of those who live in California by protecting them through disaster mitigation management. The incumbent must be able to serve in a leadership role and advise executives at the highest level of the Office of Emergency Services or Governor’s Office. They will be able to make informed decisions and provide clear/concise direction in the operations of all the hazard mitigation sub-sections. This well-versed professional will have knowledge of natural disasters that can impact California and genuinely care about those he/she works to serve.

Salary: $159,504 - $177,660
