Deputy City Manager

The City of Peoria is seeking Deputy City Manager, a key member of Peoria’s executive leadership team, working closely with the City Manager, City Council, Department Directors, and staff to advance the City’s strategic priorities and ensure the effective delivery of municipal services. Reporting directly to the City Manager, this position provides executive oversight and direction to multiple assigned departments while helping ensure departmental objectives align with the broader goals of the organization.
This highly visible leadership role requires considerable initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex organizational and community issues. The Deputy City Manager advises the City Manager on departmental and program needs; assists in the development, presentation, and implementation of programs and initiatives; and represents the City Manager and City Council within assigned areas of responsibility. The position also supports the City Council, helps resolve issues across the organization, and may act on behalf of the City Manager when needed.
The Deputy City Manager works collaboratively with the City’s leadership team to establish and implement strategic goals, provide direction to staff, communicate with elected officials, and participate in City Council meetings. The position oversees a broad range of administrative and operational matters within assigned departments, including budgets, operational planning, personnel matters, and agenda items.
Beyond the organization, the Deputy City Manager serves as an important representative of Peoria, building relationships with residents, businesses, boards, regional agencies, and community partners. Education: Equivalent to a master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public or business management, public or business administration, or a related degree or equivalent.
Experience: A minimum of nine years of increasingly responsible managerial experience.
Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements: Valid Arizona Driver’s License upon hire.
Preferred/Desirable Qualification(s): ICMA Credentialed Manager (ICMA-CM)

Salary: $253,291.85 - $279,752.23
