San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC)

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) is seeking a General Manager. Under the policy direction of the Public Utilities Commission and reporting to the Mayor, the General Manager manages, plans, and organizes the activities and operations of the Commission; serves as administrative head in the Commission’s relations with the public, legislative bodies, and federal, state and local public agencies; and does related work as required. The General Manager serves as Chief Executive Officer of this complex agency, coordinating the work of a team of highly skilled professional managers and a large, diverse workforce to exercise administrative direction and coordination over employees engaged in the operation of the SFPUC’s three major utilities (power, water, and wastewater) and the support bureaus.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, forward-thinking executive who leads the SFPUC with sound judgment, innovative problem-solving, and a strong commitment to operational excellence, fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability. This person will bring credibility, decisiveness, and a results-oriented approach while balancing the delivery of safe, reliable, and sustainable utility services with affordability for ratepayers. The successful candidate will apply disciplined financial management to ensure that infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and system resilience investments are strategic, responsible, and fiscally sound.

Salary: $325,754 to $481,208
