Solano County is seeking a Chief Information Officer (CIO). The CIO serves as Solano County’s senior technology executive, leading a 74-member Department of Information Technology responsible for delivering innovative, reliable, and secure technology services that support County operations and public service delivery. Reporting as a department head and strategic advisor to County leadership, the CIO provides vision, direction, and oversight for all aspects of enterprise technology, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, application development, data services, public safety communications, digital transformation, and customer support. This position leads a department with an annual budget of approximately $51 million and plays a critical role in advancing modernization initiatives, strengthening cybersecurity, guiding responsible adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, and ensuring technology investments align with County priorities and community needs.
The ideal candidate for Solano County’s Chief Information Officer is a strategic, forward-thinking, and relationship-focused technology executive who combines strong technical and business acumen with sound judgment and a commitment to public service. This leader will have a broad understanding of enterprise technology, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, application development, data and information management, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies, and will remain current on evolving industry trends, risks, and best practices. The successful candidate will be able to translate complex technology needs and opportunities into practical, secure, and cost-effective solutions that support County operations, improve service delivery, and advance organizational priorities.
The ideal CIO will view technology as an enterprise-wide strategic asset and serve as a trusted advisor and partner to County leadership and departments. This individual will be an effective communicator who listens carefully to business needs, explains complex technology issues clearly to diverse audiences, builds strong working relationships, and brings people together around shared objectives. The successful candidate will demonstrate the judgment and adaptability necessary to balance competing priorities with organizational capacity, establish clear direction, and guide complex initiatives from planning through successful implementation.

Salary: $218,767.32 - $265,913.04
