The City of San Jose, CA is seeking a Deputy Director, Environmental Services Department Capital Improvement Program. Reporting to the Director of Environmental Services, the CIP Deputy Director will plan, organize, and direct the overall management of the Capital Improvement Program, including construction management and project delivery, ensuring program stability. The CIP Deputy Director is responsible for directing and monitoring the overall CIP budget, schedule, and work flow; overseeing the development and refinement of project scope, schedules, and budgets as the dozens of projects progress through scoping, preliminary engineering, detailed design, and bid award; general administration of the CIP which includes establishing the priorities for project elements with procedures and strategies to ensure construction standards are maintained, as well as the timely and effective utilization of available resources. The CIP Deputy Director will build and lead highly functioning, dynamic teams of engineers, project managers, inspectors, planners, contractors, and consultants in completing multiple projects of varying sizes and complexities. Finally, the CIP Deputy Director will represent ESD in interactions and collaboration with CIP partners (other City Departments, consultants, and contractors), residents and city council members of neighboring cities, and representatives of various governmental and regulatory agencies.
