The City of Palo Alto is searching for a Director of Libraries. Reporting to the City Manager, the Director of Libraries is a collaborative member of the City’s Executive Leadership Team, and is accountable for directing all aspects of the department including its personnel, budget, resources and setting department specific policies. Projects/priorities for the new Director of Libraries include: Continuing to build community engagement and participation, maintaining positive relationships with City schools and seeking opportunities with private schools and universities, effectively recruiting and retaining library employees, collaborating with other City departments to meet broader goals and initiatives, identifying community needs in terms of desired types of space within libraries, overseeing additional remodeling and technology upgrades, and completing full build out of Automated Material Handling (AMH) at all libraries. The City of Palo Alto is looking for an exceptional professional with public library experience at the executive management level, within a union environment. University library experience will also be considered. The ideal candidate is passionate about libraries. With a positive, curious outlook, the incumbent will enjoy actively exploring new practices. An innovative spirit is needed in this role. Because this is a key public facing position, excellent public speaking skills are required. Salary: $159,573 - $239,200
